Hi, I have a question about storing pellets? Is it necessary to store them in a sealed container or is just an open back/bucket OK? They will be kept in the garage, so, no worries about rain or anything.

I wouldn't store them in an open container. I bought a couple of bins on Amazon that are marketed for dog food. They seal up nicely and have wheels.
But do they truly seal up air tight? I was thinking about something like that as well, but they are clearly not air tight. I am hoping that keeping the bugs and critters out is all you really need. The bags they are sold in are not really air tight either, especially after they get thrown around a little.

Is it terrible humid where you live?

I store some in HD buckets with a sealed lid (I only have 2) mostly because its easier to pour, but the majority are stored in the original bag in my shed. Done it this way for a decade issue free.

BUT I live in SLC and Now CO where its generally very dry.

But now you made me think about it and Im gonna order a couple more lids and hit HD for a couple more buckets. Mostly because storing the bags always worries me that one will get snagged and make a huge mess.

Thanks guys. I think just a good container will work fine. Wisconsin so, yah, more humidity than I would like in the Summer, but I think just keeping it out of the weather will be good, air tight or not. I have always stored my wood chips open.

Sealed container and off the floor especially in a basement or shed.

Back in MN, the bags were carelessly left open and on the garage floor for years without a problem.
This summer I actually moved them all to screw top buckets similar to the lids Dave (@sandyut ) posted. It wasn't so much an effort to protect from humidity but to clean up the garage and get them off the floor.

What are these screw top buckets with lids? Do you have a link?
If you have a local
Dunkin’s Donuts nearby?
They always have buckets , ask for a lid.
They have their ingredients shipped in them.
Not sure what they will charge you?
Cheaper than HD?
Also MCD s using for Pickles too.
Make a good brine bucket !

I don’t do anything special. Haven’t had a problem here in NJ or previously in CT (except a chipmunk that chewed a bag). I do pour as much as I can from a 40lb bag into a 5gal bucket (a whole 20lb woukd fit) . Easier to pour from the bucket to the hopper than from the bag imo, nice if its raining too. You can get “food grade” 5gal buckets at Lowes - they’re white with black snap tight lids . As mentioned above local restaurants, bakeries, etc often sell buckets for a minimal price.

I got mine from a friend. They were used to pack desiccants and thus the need for a water and air tight seal. Don't remember the manufacturer.
Dave posted a link in his reply to a model that snaps on a regular 5 gal bucket. click this -> sealed lid

I just leave mine in the bag , out on the patio under cover but nothing special . I go through them pretty quick though . Same with charcoal .

Gammaseal vault, water tight. I have 2 of them.
