I am planning out building a seperate patio area for my stick burner and the two best spots to use are on the same side of my house.

Spot A. Away from my house towards my fence. It would be only 16 feet off my deck, would look nice. But I mostly have wind coming from the north here and it would be blowing right into the stack side of my OK Joe highland and I am worried it might make things a little hard. I could build a little fence wall to block the wind.

Or would I have it closer to my house with the fire box opening facing the on coming wind, which should make controlling air flow easier. But I am worried with it being close to my house would the smell of wood and or charcoal come into my soffit and leave the smell trapped in there, and also would it over time cause discoloration to my stucco and soffit?

So which one would be the best?

Sorry for the newbie question and also sorry if in the wrong sub forum.

I would stay away from the house, the discoloring is an issue as well as smoke blowing in windows if they are open etc.

When I had my old stick burning offset, I had to orient it differently each time I used it. It always depended upon which way the wind blew. Admittedly, it was not a large smoker, but it was fire box heavy.

I am not familiar with your smoker, I keep my firebox down wind. its rf though, but the nose is in the wind

Away from house and large enough that you can turn it around if the wind bothers the draft.

I'm away from the house, but sometimes the wind directions pushes it to the house. Wife does not appreciate "smelling like a campfire" (her words).

Stick burners put out more gases than a MES or a BGE ,being able to turn the smoker or a foldable wind brake would help keep it away from the house ,nothing sez you have to have a wall,a 3 section plywood wind brake could be stowed out of site when not in use.
