Negative. I always lay my ribs horizontally on the grate, bone side down. Learned long ago that as the fat renders, it flows into the meat to keep it tender.

I don't even use a rib rack, for the above reason - can't get the fat on top.
 
Don't stack them as the ones in the middle will NOT get any Smoke...

Get a rib rack from Lowe's or Home Depot or Walmart or even online

Agree with both, but I prefer the bone down over using the racks. To me the bone helps hold the juices.
