Hey y’all
I’ve been reading through for a while on rf builds about to do another one, but this time the right way.
There’s a lot of very good information here so I figured I would join and contribute where I could.

Yea man you ain’t lieing and I’ve only been looking in the RF build section. So I can imagine the information through out the rest of the sight

I hope to get started this weekend on it I got a 130 gallon tank. I was going to go with a 250 because I can get old propane tanks here from 40-70 dollars depending on the size all day long but this 130 was giving to me. So frees better. But a quick call to the metal shop a 4x8 sheet of 1/4 is 113.00, and they will roll it for free so I’m torn between. New clean steel for 113 or free tank. Is there any pros or cons for keeping the bell end of the propane tanks for a RF as far as functionality?

It was a 120 gallon my mistake. And then this taller cylinder was given to me today as well so might as well do a patio smoker and use it to upset the cost of mine

The tank is 24”. OD And 3/16 wall
so I came up with 23.625” id
So 11.8125 radius if. All my math is correct
Plugging into the calculator
Fb/cc opening
Area under rf plate
And areas at the end of plate was 117.48
And On that note, area under plate I’m confused on that one isn’t that just the same as the opening size but wouldn’t the area be a lot more with it traveling down?
And calculating the end of plate in real life vs on paper how’s the best way to measure out that amount while retaining the bell end of the tank
Or would the 7.4 segment height be the same on that end.

the RF plate width Is 21.994 and I was planning on making 22x22x22 fire box so it seems that would work out to just carry the fire box down into the rf plate but nothing has been cut yet so everything can change

if anybody sees something I don’t of where I messed up please let me know I’m gonna start cutting this weekend
Thanks in advanced
Blake

At the end of he RF plate, stop the plate at the weld...
For the FB, cut the tank opening past the weld... Easier fit up for the RF plate...

Weld seam of a propane tank....

Cool thanks for the help. What about smoke stack diameter I’m not really understanding the formula from your post to see what I need

It has began

On the way to my dads shop to cut the tank open now, and put a top on the firebox.

23.625 x 23.625 x0.7854 x 63 (account for the bulge) = 27,617 cu. in.
27,616 x .022 = 608 cu. in. / .7854 x36 = 21.5 D stack squared... D = 4.6" diameter..

I would go with a 6" stack 36" above the CC..... More is better.. better air flow through the smoker..

Using ~16 ga. steel, roll a collar, squeeze it down to fit inside the bell end of the pipe... weld it to the plenum you will make, for the stack...

This is a very good plenum design....
AND the FB air inlets are very good...
