Just ordered a Smokin It #2 and will arrive this week for early holiday gift to myself.  Looking forward to my first attempt at smoking. Any suggestions for first time equipment to have on hand and recommended brands/items?  Thanks.

In my opinion (and many others) a good accurate thermometer is very important, not only to help make your food taste good but also so you know it's safe to eat. A very good (and popular) one is the Maverick ET732, it is digital and very accurate. It has a programmable remote so you can monitor temps inside the house and set up alarms for different things. It has 2 probes, 1 for the smoker temp and 1 for the meat temp. Next to my smoker my Maverick is the best investment I've made. +1 on a good thermo or 3. The experts all say to cook to IT (internal temp) not to time or appearance. That advice saved my bacon a time or 4.
