Wife and I were at the store for the monthly stock up trip and I was collecting the stuff for the 'duck blind fattys' when she hit me with the broadside "so how much is this fatty stuff going to cost"!  Well, I thought I had been cost concious, generic sausage, cheap(er) bacon, store brand shreaded cheese ILO deli, etc - so it hit me kinda hard and I responded w/ the usual 'I dona wana know'.

Last time I got "the question" was when I decided I needed a mini WSM.  My responce that time was - and how many purses do you need - you know how far that got me.

So what's your answere to "the question"?

I go shopping for smoker food by myself. I got " the question " once now I just show up at home with it and tell her I bought dinner.

Your planning and timing need improvement. EXAMPLE: I wanted to buy a new smoker (MES). My wife and I where shopping at the local mall. She's in JCP looking at a $200. watch. I encourage her, tell her she deserves to have a new watch. She buys it. Later i remind her that last month I asked her to pick a new watch for me (old one broken) and she only spent $20. for mine and mention that Amazon has smokers on sale. The new smoker costs less than her new watch. It,s all in the timing.

That's a tuff one and it's a no win set up; kinda like the -do these pants make me look fat? You can answer her by being honest and hope for the best or you can simply tell her it's cheaper than a night at the bar with the guys. Either way there is the risk that you may end up sleeping on the couch.

Maybe the best way to avoid the whole topic is to get her involved in the process - make it a family event and then cost isn't such an issue. Just a thought..
