While I am smoking some other stuff, I wondered if smoke can be applied to spices for other cooking perhaps.

I know people smoke peppers and I will do that when I plant some in the summer.
But, can you perhaps, toss a pan of granular salt (Kosher or Sea Salt) and smoke it to later add to stews or whatever?

I thought about this after I saw that Morton sells a sugar cure that has hickory smoke added to it.

Thoughts?

sure you can smoke spices-I smoke salt-pepper all the time-and any other spice I want a smokey taste to.

Lioke some other folks, I have smoked salt and peppercorns. It's not easy getting a real smokey flavor, and the taste hasn't lasted very long in my experiences. I may be missing something along the road.

I know cowgirl does alot. She has a sweet smoke house and gives the spices a nice gentle bath in the TBS.I have seen her do honey as well.I would check out her threads or her Blog....
