Hey everyone, I am new to the forum, I still consider myself a green horn in smoking, but I really wanna pursue smoking and get good at it.

The bad part, both of my parents have diabetes and I am over weight starting a diet, (had some blurry vision and blood sugar ups and downs)

So now to the question, What can I smoke that is some what healthy and of course tasty?

Smoking isn't going to affect your blood sugar, the sauce and the ingredients in the rub will.

I would suggest finding or making a rub which does not use sugar and the same with sauces.

As for the meat it will have no more affect than any other meat and will probably be healthier because it is not cooked in added fats or oils...

Splenda is your friend in Rubs. But the biggest part is portion control. But you can stick to pork loins and chicken. Pulled pork will have more fat.

Got into this because I have insulin resistance and don't want to get to diabetes.

Veggies and smoked meats and sausage with little or no sugar will be your friend,

Course you gotta give up the sugar, breads, pastas, potatoes, pretzels, etc., but it works.

don't forget to get mov'in if you're sitting around.

Doc that knows!

As has been said before - splenda, low sodium rubs and pork loins and roasts and chicken will fit right into your diet well

What everyone else said above!!!

I've been smoking for a few years now. Since last fall I've dropped 23lbs. Back down to the same weight I was in high school.

That said, it's about watching what you eat and more importantly, how much of it. Of course with diabetes on the horizon, you've got to be careful about certain foods. Follow your docs advice. Smoke on, have fun, and push yourself away from the table.

Thanks everyone, I am looking forward to smoking some chicken, I will check out the splenda in a rub, once I make my own rub! LOL

Easiest things you can control doing bbq are the sugar, processed sugars, salts, and other additives that are in the store bought, overprocessed items.

-Stay away from the store bought sauces (yoshidas, etc) that are loaded with hfcs, and salt & god only knows what other stuff.

-Also try and make your own rubs, injections, etc.

You can control the use of salt and sugar & other additives in the items you make yourself, and just dont slather everything in sauce. BBQ is better unsauced imho anyway, I want to taste the pork.

good luck
