Hello to all, Paul here from Taylorsville, KY. I love to smoke/grill pretty much anything. I currently own a Holland Grill & Traeger Smoker. I figure between the two, nothing is safe. I smoke/grill anything from breakfast to dessert. My family favorite is Boston Butt on the smoker, whatever is left over becomes pulled pork BBQ. My ideal weekend is throwing a big piece of meat on the smoker, going out on the lake with family and friends and everyone coming over after a long day on the lake for an awesome meal & drinks! That's what I call Livin'! I travel a lot with my job and my relaxation for the weekend is "watchin the smoke roll" or letting the smoker do it's thing while floating on the water. Can't wait to learn more.

Hello Paul and

to SMF - glad to have you here

Hi Paul,

I also joined today. How do you like that Traeger smoker? Have you had it for a long time? I threw my old cheapo smoker away last month. I couldn't control the temperature any more and everything was tasting pretty bad. I'm looking for a new smoker and I like the idea of just turning on the pellet machine on and going to the beach. (My old smoker needed tending every 20 minutes). But the traditionalist in me wants a wood burning smoker. So I am sitting here dazed and confused. Anyone else want to add their .10 cents worth...............it's welcome. I'm looking for a smoker that will hold it's temperature and go for a long time without have to add coals or wood every 20 minutes.

Besides that I love to cook, my wife and I actually argue over who is going to cook. Fortunately the grill and smoker are all mine and it's going to stay that way.

Hey Budster, I have had mine a couple of months. I am cooking/smoking on it every weekend and every day I am at home. With the Traeger, I think you get the best of both worlds....you are actually cooking with real wood, just in a pellet form, and you don't have to babysit it. I wish I had bought it years ago. You can grill or smoke on it. The temperature control is what I love about the Traeger. When you leave the smoker alone (not raising the lid to take a peak), it will stay within +/- 5 or 6 degrees of what you set the temp control. I am a "fiddler" and always try to "perfect" everything I buy, haven't figured out how to improve on the Texas that I bought. I would buy it again in a heartbeat. Go on-line to Traeger and find your local dealer. Most of them have demonstrations from time to time or are part of a cooking team. The dealers around here are very knowledgeable and will help you any way they can. Hope this helps. Good luck in your search of your perfect smoker.

PS  I did a 11 lb sirloin tip on mine today and it was AMAZING.
