Colin Dussault Blues Project, AWSOME on the harmonica. With songs like Little Chicken Wing Girl, Good Booty and Barbeque, and T-Bone Shuffle you know he is good. If you are any where near Cleveland or the Lake Erie Islands find out where he will be and go see him.

dont think anyone mentions Junior Wells yet. I walked into a little music shop about 8 or 9 years ago and they were playing a cd of his, I had to ask who he was cause I had never listened to any blues at all, been listen to all kinds every since.

On a slightly different subject, I saw a great series on PBS a few years back. Clint Eastwood was the host. Martin Scorsese was the producer and I only saw a little bit of it and haven't seen it on since. I've looked for it on DVD to no luck. Anybody know what I talking about and how to get it on DVD?

Dang that's 2 days in a row , I remember Junior from a couple other forums , he kinda dropped off one while back and I just saw him posting on another yesterday

May I suggest the late Rory Gallagher? Plaid-wearing Irish blues rocker with a stinging Stratocaster.

Don't want to ruffle any Norah Jones fans, but I'd suggest staying away from her if you have to stay up all night to smoke a 14 hr. brisket. She herself likes to kid about the nickname that some critics have pegged her with, "Snorah".

If you want an upbeat BBQ experience, you should try Louis Jordan. The guy was doing "rock 'n roll" long before the "official" first r'r record, Rocket 88 by Jackie Brenson. "Saturday Night Fish Fry" works great. For a modern twist on it, get Joe Jackson's "Jumpin' Jive" album, where he covers quite a few Jordan songs.

If you have an adult crowd, Rev. Horton Heat is great. Of course, just about any rockabilly works well and will transport you to a Memphis/Arkansas vibe, which is perfect for BBQ'ing, even for those in the Midwest or Canada. Go with some of the old Sun Records compilations which have lots of cool seldom-heard things like Ubangi Stomp and Flying Saucers Rock and Roll from the late 50s. And if you have a goth daughter-in-law or a hip crowd, freak them out by showing how cool you are by playing The Cramps or Horrorpops (a Danish post-modern rockabilly sort of outfit with a lead singer that looks alarmingly like Bettie Page).

How about some Memphis r&b? Al Green, Booker T. and the MGs, Otis Redding (started in Mussel Shoals), Sam & Dave, Ann Peebles, etc. Almost anything on Stax works, as well as anything produced by Willie Mitchell on Hi records (he gave Al Green his signature sound). And Rufus and his daugher Carla Thomas (who recorded an album with Otis) are fun things to play.

Then you have the Mussel Shoals contingent, Aretha and Wilson Pickett (who both did Memphis as well), Clarence Carter, Solomon Burke, and others. Lots of country stuff came out of there as well, plus Skynryd and Duane Allman recorded there as well (Drive By Truckers and Jason Isbell are "local artists").

The blues have been covered pretty well, but I don't know if anyone's mentioned Duke Robillard or R. L. Burnside.
