Hello Everyone from Crestview, FL

I have never attempted to smoke anything so I am using this weekend to try it out.  A post by jmasterj has convinced me to purchase the Master Forge Electric Dome Smoker from Lowe's.  I thought I would try some ribs and a Boston Butt this weekend; tomorrow is the day for assembly and breaking it in.  Any advice for this newbie is greatly appreciated.  I look forward to trying out several of the recipes and sharing the whole smoking experience with everyone.

Welcome to SMF glad you joined us. You'll find lots of good info and some great recipes here. Make sure to clean and season the smoker before smoking in it

As for the ribs I would suggest 3-2-1 if doing spares and 2-2-1 if doing baby backs. Basically get the smoker to 225 and put the rubbed ribs in then smoke for the first number of hours then take them out and wrap them in foil and add a little liquid like maybe apple juice then seal the foil tight and back into the smoker for 2 hours then carefully (they will want to fall apart)  take them out of the foil and place them back on the rack for the final hour. If you want to baste them with sauce do it the last half hour to forty five minutes so the sauce doesn't burn.

As for the butt check out this link

Have fun and good luck

Welcome to SMF.....Yup the 3-2-1 and -2-2-1 is a great way to get succulent fall of the bone ribs. My favorite. As far as the butt goes, Pineywoods directed you to a great link with a very thorough tutorial. All I can add is to start early in the morning. Get your butt up by 4 am and have the other butt on the smoker no later than 5 am....Unless you start early, plan on pizza for dinner that night....Have fun and
