I DO make all of our soups. Wife does make chili sometimes.
I tried smoked meatballs in my last batch of Minestrone and decided that Italian and smoked is not a good combination.

Looks amazing! I make onion soup. Never tried adding meat to it. And smoked meat. That had to be tasty.
That's my next venture. I'll try regular beef with the wife before attempting smoked as she has a limited liking of smoked meats.

Somehow I missed the use of sherry on the first read. A local restaurant long out of business now was renowned for this dish. As fate would have it, I have dealings with one the old chefs who told me the secret is dry sherry. Must have here in our beef dishes along with Accent.
