In addition, electrics usually don't produce the desirable pink smoke ring just below the surface of the meat. To get one, add one or two charcoal briquets to the woodbox of an electric. They produce gases that help create a pink smoke ring.

I'll take lead and stick my neck out, so , IMHO I believe the AMNPS would do the job. You'd need to keep it away from the direct heat , I'm sure. However the creosote danger is next to zero and you still have the gasses which cause the change in the color.

Todd's AMNPS permeates Cheese very well in only 3hrs. , I would say  6 or so hrs. in would affect the meat as well.

I am a Stick Burner and cannot attest to the validity here, but in theory it should work.
