Smoke Pistol

Just wondering if any of you folks have used this new gadget...the "smoke pistol"
I'd be interested in hearing any feedback on it...it's pretty cheap, and looks like a great idea.

Often the SmokePistol will stop producing smoke when the pellets fail to drop down. I believe this is why " I know the unit itself is "working" (blowing), and the cartridge releases smoke fine by itself (when upright)". When it is upright, the pellets just keep burning down on themselves. When it is upside down, those pellets have to drop or there will nothing to burn. I have resorted to tapping the cartridge often to keep the pellets dropping down in order to burn and keep it smoking. I would think hard and twice before laying down any money on the unit. I used one for 1 1/2 yrs. before giving up on it. Hope this helps..

Thanks to all for the input, but I'm a bit confused by your comments Richoso...if I could learn how to post a pic on here I think we could straighten it out. The unit I'm speaking of does not use pellets...it is one piece of wood with an easy light tip called a "bullet" for obvious reasons. Since I'm apparently to damned stupid to post a pic, I'll post a url where ya'll can check this puppy out. Again...thanks for the comments folks :)

Ok, as I know the Smoke Pistol, the bullet is a cardboard cylinder with a metal bottom and a bullet shaped head which is made of a flammable material. You light the bullet and in turn it lights the pellets inside the cylinder. Once you have the pellets burning, you insert the cylinder, bullet head first, into the chamber, and the small fan keeps it burning, much like blowing on the end of a lit cigarette. If the pellets get stuck and don't drop, there will be nothibng to burn, hence no smoke. If you think it is one piece of wood... shake it gently as to not break the bullet head, one piece of wood will not sound like pellets. I hope this brings clearity to my previous post. Let me know if they have changed the bullet and it's contents.

Rich...what did you think of the smoke quality? I'm going to give Porky Pa's unit a try, got one on the way. Bought the mid-sized one for $69.

Sounds very similar to the smoke pistol. Differences I notice are a re-fillable tube in place of the cartridge and an air pump w/valve instead of the fan and speed control. Otherwise, seems to be the same concept.

Porky Pa here. First I would like to thank Dave for giving the Smoke Daddy a try. I’d like to clarify the difference between the Smoke Pistol and the Smoke Daddy. The Smoke Daddy has the smoke outlet tube above the fuel to prevent any blockages. (Patent Pending) It also has a larger smoke chamber to help with the gravity feed. The fuel is lit from the bottom of the unit and small wood chips work just as well as pellets. No cartridges.

As far as the quality of smoke is concerned, as long as it's burning it's good. Thank You Porky Pa for giving us a good description of your unit. You're a good man.

Looks like your unit design addresses some of the shortcomings of the Smoke pistol.

I was figuring the smoke quality might be somewhat similar. Both units burn pellets in a confined area, with air assist to keep things going and push the smoke into the cooking area.

Got it today and hoping to mount and test out tomorrow.
