i just bought a 30 inch masterbuild electric smoker. my friend has the exact same one he tryed pulled pork at 225 and he didnt have much smoke at all the meat didnt have a smoke taste at all. he was using hickory. i am going to try pulled pork this weekend i am going to try apple chips. is there anything else i can do to get the smoke at 225
 
No Apple gives a lighter smoke flavor than hickory does
 
Hickory will definitely make itself known before apple will. Like Todd said just keep adding chips. I have an MES30 as well and in my experience adding chips every 30 min to an hour keeps it smoking nicely.

As long as it takes to smoke a butt for PP I think you'll definitely get some smoke on it.
