Slaughterhouse Smoked Turkey

This is not only my first attempt at smokimg a turkey, but my first turkey cook PERIOD!

Here's my smoked 14lb turkey for this past Saturdays late thanksgiving. Did a 12 hour brine in kosher salt, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, celery seed, bay leaves, and some Cajun seasoning (very little). Rubbed in extra virgin olive oil, sprinkled with season all, and injected with apple juice. Also stuffed the cavity with one quartered apple and one quarteted orange. Took about 2.5 hours at 350 degrees on the smoker using apple wood chunks for a mild smoke flavor.

Best part is, my 78 year old grandmother said it was the best turkey she's ever had. That's a lot of competition lol

Since I didn't get any leftovers from this one, I'm gonna do a smaller one this week. I think I'm gonna inject with melted butter this time and seasonings. We'll see. Sorry, don't have any pics of it sliced. That bird disappeared quick.

Put it in a clean Lowe's 5 gallon bucket. Just had to reorganize the fridge and remove a shelf and it fit right in.

I'll never make a turkey another way! Minus some ingredient adjustments over time, for experimenting purposes of course.

This was done on a Big Joe, btw.

:points1: looks very good! I would eat some of that! My only suggestion would be to get a food grade bucket instead of those Lowes Blue ones.

Yea I've seen some darker and some lighter. I was okay with the color of this one for sure!

I agree. I washed it very well so I wouldn't imagine it's too much different than a Tupperware bowl.
