Have been seeing a lot of advertising for the subject grilling mats. Wondering if any of you folks have them, use them and if you like them.? They look like a pretty neat thing to help enhance a grilling experience but they might, in my mind anyway, be a real come on.

I use Q-MATZ from A-MAZE-N. They are "Teflon Coated Fiberglass Mats".

Generally I don't use any Teflon in my kitchen, due to the reported potentially-fatal out-gassing (when scratched or damaged and exposed to high heat) for birds (I have an African gray parrot). Since I only use these in the smoker, which is outside, I don't have an issue with that...

I find it very helpful for things like shelled eggs, jerky, nuts, sausage...

Grilling is a combo of the steal grate searing a portion of the meat. The rising infrared heat accelerating the maillard reaction browning the meat between the rods and smoke flavoring the whole surface. Place a solid sheet of whatever between the grill and the meat and you lose the effect and the whole purpose of grilling the food. You might as well just sit in the air conditioned kitchen and cook on a Griddle! Any item that can slip thru the grates can be placed on skewers or in a basket. Although I have used the woven 1/4" mesh Qmatz in my smoker, it terms of grilling, the above mats are pointless...JJ

Yeah, but Da Toad didn't specify whether we used them for grilling or smoking, and since this is primarily a smoking forum, I answered with respect to smoking...

I ignored the "grilling mats" because that is what they are called, regardless of how you use them. I managed to overlook the bit about "help enhance a grilling experience". My bad. Just ignore me as I fade into the background...
