Hey from SoCal. I consider myself as just 'average' when it comes to grilling a nice steak or hot smoking good bbq. Most recently, I been looking into starting diy cold smoker project. I have an old a vertical SS Great Outdoors Smokey Mountain Series hot smoker I bought about 20 years ago that has been just sitting in a corner of my backyard collecting dust and spiderwebs; It's built like a tank, the gas burner is still in good shape, thought it probably needs new grills. Now deciding if I want to revive it's use as a cold smoking rig or maybe use it as both a hot/cold smoking rig. Where do I begin?!? I'm still figuring that out. I'm at the phase of research, seeking knowledge, learning about any do's and don't for my diy planning. So far just searched for stuff on the net and it seems limited on the subject matter. However. I believe I found the best forum where members share their knowledge, experiences and passion on just about anything 'hot and cold smoked' from reading a few of the posts and discussions. I'm truly looking forward to gain from this forums members, especially about what they already know and done.

Can't help the cold smoke but welcome to SMF from SE GA and you've landed at the best spot on the worldwideweb!

You might be in the right place.

Welcome from another SoCal guy.

I would start with the search bar on the top right of the screen. There have been a lot of cold smoking projects here but I haven't seen a build in a while. That will get you started until someone chimes in here.

Hello and welcome to the forums from Vt.

Welcome to SMF from North Texas!
I use an old cabinet smoker for cold smoking, the controls and elec element failed, so I yanked the element out and use an a-maze-n tube smoker with a blend of dust and pellets or chips. Works great for fish and cheese.
