I am brand new to the forum as well as smoking. Been grilling for 30 years, but for some reason never did much smoke outside a few wet hickory chips wrapped in foil and thrown on the grill with the steaks. My wife bought me a Landmann Smokey Mountain Vertical Charcoal Smoker for Fathers Day so here I am.
My first and only "low and slow" attempt was two racks of baby back ribs that came out as good and any ribs I have eaten elsewhere, so I guess I am ready to smoke up the neighborhood. I ended up having to wait a week for my first attempt with the smoker because the "No Burn" ban in Boulder County included grills (gas or charcoal.) They lifted for grill last week so off I went. :-) BTW the major fires here in Colorado are finally under control and the Ft Collins, Boulder and Colorado Spring fires all got 3 days of rain on them and are now well under control :-)
I live in Louisville, Colorado which is 5 miles east of Boulder, 10 miles from the fire area. Born in Albuquerque, NM and raised in El Paso, TX so have the "hot and spicy" bred into my cooking style.
My other hobbies included singing with the Sound of the Rockies Barbershop Chorus, fly fishing and '60's era muscle cars. I currently own a '69 Charger (please do not call it a Robert E Lee, that just irritates me :-) and a '64 Dodge Dart convertible and my normal car is a 2009 Challenger.
I only belong to 2 other forums.... the Mopar Mailing List and the Barbershop Harmony Forum. I do not Facebook or Twitter, but know what they are :-) I pay the bill by working for a medical technology company that provide the technology to track patient records in hospitals and medical centers.
Enough rambling... hope I provided enough to give you a sense of my personality and I do look forward to learning the art of Smokin!
