I'm looking forward to getting into making my own Sausages this year... I've got a cooker-build happening that's going to allow me ALOT of versatility, i.e., smoking both hot-n-cold, grillin', and chillin' while it all goes down!

What's a good "starter" kit for a grinder and stuffer..??? I'd like one that I will be able to enjoy for years to come and will only be making modest amounts, so maybe a small one but of exceptional quality and versatility...

Thank you in advance...Riley

If you're making modest amounts, I don't recommend any of the cheaper electric grinders with an aluminum barrel.
The LEM #8 SS is a good grinder, there 5 lb. stuffer is also good, Grizzly has one that's the same size, but with poly gears, for $80.

Yeah, the poly gears have been an issue for some, but I've had mine for almost 5 years and have put a heck of a lot of sausage through it without a problem.

If they break, I can always order the metal gears from LEM.

The nylon or poly gears aren't usually a problem unless you bottom out the stuffer. Then something has to give and it is usually the gears that are the weak point.

My #12 grinder and 8# horizontal stuffer came from Harbor Freight. IIRC, together they were about $225.

I got my 17# mixer off of eBay for $60.

They are all about 3 years old and still work great.

I'm guessing 1,500 pounds of sausage, 500 pounds of hamburger and 15 deer have gone through these.

They are now called Kitchener, but I see no difference.

The stuffer is discontinued, but there is a 5# vertical available, that looks good with 4/5 stars.
