Had to make a new salt and spice smoker----the old one was on it's last leg. Used a 12 volt D.C. window motor from a car, a 12 volt converter. I place just the hopper inside my smoke cabinet-----plug it into my multi purpose, hot-cold, perpetual smoke machine.

It will then revolve a couple times every 15 to 20 minutes----I can set the times where ever I want.

This is the hopper

Inside of hopper

Motor assembly-----I can easily change hoppers.

120 volt A.C. to 12 volt D.C. converter and speed controller.

I use this to smoke salt, pepper and some spices that I use mostly in the kitchen but sometimes in sausage making.

So you are using a smoke generator to cold smoke the spices? Do I understand correctly? And if so how much time does it take?

Time would depend on how smokey you want your stuff. Personal preference really.

I love the tumbler. I was thinking about something like that for cold smoking flour. Now I know what to build. It's like a clothes dryer for food.

Thanks

Great idea...smoke penetration has always been an issue for salt and spices.
I had succumbed to doing only the smallest of batches for uniformity...
Definitely going to be trying something like this out.
