Is it ok to put rub on and out in fridge overnight before cooking? That way can save time and not get up as early.

I prefer to rub the night before if possible.
Let's the salt in the rub brine into the meat.
With Butts I unwrap in the morning and add another coating of rub, makes an incredible bark.
Same here. I always rub the night before and add more before it heads to the smoker. I do it with ribs and brisket too.

same, night before lets it soak in and day of easier.

Me too. I apply rub to ribs and put in fridge overnight when time allows, and then get to room temp before smoking. Ratio wise, my rub does not have a ton of salt or sugar in it, so adding a fresh layer of rub after pulling out of smoker really brightens up the flavor.
