My local Lowe's has the 20lb bags for $8.97. Grabbed two, that should fill my tubes for the next couple of years!

Didn't know a charcoal pellet existed... do they really taste like you cooked on charcoal?

I've only used the LJ char/hickory blend and it does give your food a charcoal flavor.

I've never used 100% charcoal pellets but that'll be happening tonight if the snow stops.

Need to break-in a new mailbox mod as the old one has seen better days.

I tried those Royal Oak charcoal pellets. They seemed too hard for the auger on my GMG
grill. Now I mix them with other, softer pellets to prevent jams in the auger tube. Since then,
I use them in the pellet tube as a supplement smoke generator. That seems to work and helps
with the smoke flavor.

Interesting. I looked at my Lowe's and they don't have them, but all the other in the area do. Not at the price you're getting... $17.98 per 20 lb bag.

This is what I do.I'm using a tube(s) with my MES as my primary smoke generator.

Did a test with whole pellets and dust in a tube with my mailbox mod.

These burned well as whole pellets but not so well as dust, the dust just wouldn't stay lit.

So I ended up smoking a ribeye using whole pellets and then a quick reverse sear.Plenty of charcoal flavor in the finished product.

I now use RO 100% charcoal with every smoke. Mixed up to 50% with other pellets (usually 100% wood pellets such as Knotty Wood or Cookinpellets). I've found it stabilizes temperature swings in my smoker (Pit Boss Brunswick). Maybe the 100% charcoal stabilizes the burn/burn rate in the burn pot.
I've also started doing lower temperature extended cooks. The Brunswick is now rock solid temperature wise for extended cooks. I recently did a 22.5 hour cook and temp was stable within just a few degrees.

I also use smoke tube(s) up to a surface temperature of 140 degrees or so.

Bought 2 bags RO 100% charcoal for $4.50 each on close out last month.
Looking for more......
