Oregon City, Or
Hello all. So am am fed up with my cheap smoker. I 've done everything i can to increase it's performance, and yet it just is not a quality cooker. And so i am ready to pull the trigger on a quality cooker. Here in Oregon my options are very limited. And so i am posting this to find out what my options are. I have been looking at the Lang 36" models but i have never layed fingers on one. Anyone have any experence with a Lang? Or are ther better options out there? Help me out please, no one around here has a clue about real bbq, let alone good smoker. Thanks....

Depends on how much $$$ you want to throw down, While I am not familiar with the Lang, I have seen many people write good things about it. For now, I am partial to my "The Good One" smoker. They are high-quality and really do a great job for me. When I'm ready to step it up a notch, I will most likely go with A Pitmaker Safe or Vault. Right now they are just a little out of my price range. All that being said, I think the best bang for the buck is the WSM 22.5. Wish I would have bought one instead of the $1300 ABS smoker that I just bought...

X2 on the WSM.  I don't have one myself but I do know several people that have them and all good things come off of that cooker.

I have a RF 250 gallon that I built myself and love it.  I think that the lang is a good choice but probably pretty $$$.

Aaron.

I have a  Meadow Creek RF smoker and really like it. I was in the same situation as you are in now with wanting to upgrade. I looked around at all the cookers and came up with the Meadow Creek as my pick. I picked the TS250 smoker for size and for the most cooking area I would need. They are built very well and you get what you pay for, at least I think so. Here is a link that I used before I purchased mine for info. You will find many sizes to pick from.

I have a Lang and I love it. If you go with a Lang or Meadow Creek, you'll find that a reverse flow is the way to go.

Thanks all...Good information.  I think I know which way I'm gonna go.  I'll post pics my decision when I get my new smoker setup and fired up.

At one of the locations I worked a few years ago we bought a Pitmaker Vault. I left shortly after receiving it. They have sat it outside in the Florida elements the entire time. Other than a bit of cleaning and some new high heat caulking needing replacing, it is in great shape. The water pan is warped, partly by design issue and too much heat by operator error. I spoke with the owners the other day about purchasing one for my current location. They have made several improvements to the water pan by making it thicker and putting a deflector plate as well under it. With both of these improvements it should keep the water pan from getting warped. Once approved we should be ordering the new set up........ They do very nice work. They also like the work they do and charge for it......not sure what your budget is, but I would buy one for home if I had the budget for it and no means to build my own.........
