Hi All, I recently finished building a new smoker. Ive built allot of heavy art but this is my first smoker. Did a test cook and it was exceptional. Im looking to sell it but plan on renting it out while trying to find a buyer. Looking for some advice on how to protect myself and what others have done when renting. Also, looking for your thoughts on price point. This is a unique unit with a unique style and story.

About the smoker: Made from an antique air tank from an abandoned mine, mounted on a welded stand and on a trailer. The whole unit can be removed from the trailer if desired. Sierra wood stove as a fire box with 12" waterworks butterfly valve for smoke inlet and 6" valve for smoke outlet. 5 customen shelves that slide out and can be configured as desired. Cowboy hat topper and currently working on a football helmet topper. Red powdercoat good to 800 degrees and black powdercoat good to 1200 degrees.

Looks cool! I know nothing about how to answer your questions.

Welcome to SMF. Might advise you to hit the roll call forum and add your location to your profile.

Looks steampunk to me. Renaissance fair may be a good place to rent/sell it. I think your asking price determines your rental price to an extent. Hog cooker rental on Craigslist is around $250. Look there and marketplace to get ideas. Good job, good luck.

Thanks for the note. I've had some wild price suggestions. Its a piece of art and one of a kind and ill never make another one like this. Prices suggested are $20k in Texas and up to $50k in Tennessee. I don't know how realistic that is but apparently there are some rich people who go to these smoking competitions looking for really unique pieces. The rivets have a high temp black paint and the black bands you see are a mask and peel but the peel really likes the powder coat so it will take some heating cycles to come off over time.

If you look at the pic you'll see some steel straps holding to the trailer. It could be lifted off and put on someone patio if thats what they wanted.

$250 to $300 a day for rental seems to be on par for my area. You can see a build video on my IG page at whiskeyandchainsaws

@whiskeyandchainsaws I guess my biggest question on price would be does the piece include the trailer? I think 20K seems a bit high depending on the trailer price but, as an artist and craftsman, how much are you worth an hour? How many hours are into it? We all have to eat and keep the lights on but be reasonable and I dunno maybe an auction site with s reserve to judge interest? At the end of the day anything is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. It is freaking cool as hell.
Edit: I post this with the utmost respect for the build. Wife said I might sound like a dink.

Yes everything in the picture is included plus bins for store wood, cooking suplies and a custom cover for storage. Thanks for the comments, it took two years to build working on weekends. Powder coat was $4k becuase the high temp stuff is really expensive. I've seen large production smokers go for $15k but there are a lot of copies of those. One of a kind with the unique story could have value

I agree with BF that seems a bit steep, you will need to find someone that wants unique….

Just passing this on as it will give you an idea of higher end stuff……Take a look at the Tagwood Grills…this is what 29k gets you…..
