In light of whats going on in our country I do not want it to shadow the acts of 9/11.

Please take some time to reflect of what happened and where we are because of it. Appreciate what we have and the cost that has been paid to have it.

I pray that you all and your families are doing well and will continue to pray for this.

I don't know anyone who can't recall where they were and what they were doing on that day. You know, I was on a flight between The Netherlands & Kazakstan when this all went down. The whole way it went down where I was is surreal.

My heart breaks for everyone who lost their lives and those who still continue to struggle from this event.

I was an active duty sailor stationed aboard CVN-71. Pre-deployment leave had me on a canoe fishing trip upriver from Scottsville on the James. We stopped to camp in Howardsville that morning after getting rained out the day before and the fella at the general store filled us in. Surreal to say the least. We were already scheduled to deploy on the 18th or 19th regardless. That was a helluva war cruise. I remember it vividly.

I became an EMT, joined a volunteer fire department, became a public safety diver, a wildland firefighter Type II, Firefighter I, and went through the ranks, going to over 3000 calls before retiring as Assistant Chief after serving my 20 years. I held several titles such as EMS Captain, Fire Training Captain and Deputy Fire Chief prior to becoming Assistant Chief. That day changed us all, so for the bad, some for the good, but all changed forever.

I was still in high school when 9/11 happened. I remember walking in to my first class of the morning and the teacher had the news on the TV in the classroom. The principal came around to each class, telling teachers to turn it off. The teacher, (Mr. Revis) turned it off long enough for the principal to walk out. Turned it back on, looked at all of us and said " thats bull s***, you guys need to see this". We spent the remainder of class watching a tragedy and talking like adults with Mr. Revis. It united all of us in an instant and gave us young kids a new perspective of what is actually important in this world. We did a lot of growing up that day, and I gained a whole new level of respect for Mr.Revis for letting us see it and not hidding it from us like many wanted to do. 🇺🇸

Bieng not that far from DC, we had fighter jets ripping overhead at what seemed like treetop level. Not knowing was was happening yet beyond what we saw on TV, it felt like the nation was under attack. I remember saying "YES! Go get those mo#!er$#%'s! when the jets would rip past. It was certainly a moment when we all seemed to get along...hard to believe today how that has deteriorated. A damned shame what we've become.

I was on a location digging a house foundation. Listened all morning and day on the radio. We had no clue at first. Thought it may be a nation wide attack. Came home that night and watched news channels all night drinking it in. It was unreal at the time. I really thought of enlisting but after it all unfolded I decided not to. I was 30 years old at the time. Was like the stories of JFK assassination in terms of remembering where you were that day when you heard the news, I never really related to those stories until that day on Sep. 11.

Just me, but I kinda wish they would have built back 3 buildings on that footprint. The middle building the tallest in the land in the middle and the other two either side about half as tall.

I remember exactly where we were working when the attacks came.

My crew and another of our crews were working in a very upscale neighborhood pruning trees.

All of a sudden, the lady of the house my crew was working at came out the front door screaming, "Get down out of those trees, Terrorists have flown a plane into the world trade center!"

She was literally scared out of her wits and invited us into her living room, sawdust and all. She also asked me to get the other crew a couple doors down and have them come, too. We all witnessed the second plane crash on her TV together.

Our social status, rich, grunts trying to make a living, none of that mattered at that time. We were all Just Americans witnessing what would change each of us forever.

A day that will never be forgotten. Prayers to all the families directly affected.

I was on the 4th floor of a 10 story building at work. Heard something on the radio and pulled out the old 12" tube tv and was in total disbelief seeing the first one, then the second hit and it was clear the world had changed forever.

911: I was on the phone talking to a guy about buying a Benz Wagon.
He told me and I said stop the BS, He said NO REALLY, TURN ON YUR TV !
I turned on the TV and saw the tower burning and then the 2nd tower hit live !
I called my Sister working in Manhattan ,told her to get off the isalnd ASAP.
She took the 1st ferry to NJ along with her husband met up with her.
Living south almost 2 hours away, Near AC,NJ.
I could smell the toxic remains of the burning for a few days!?
I remember as a kid we would use the twin towers as a beacon, sailing in the bay.
Pray for those that lost their lives /Still suffering due to exposure.
YES!? we have probably the best country on the planet!
AMEN!

Best country God ever gave man. This is a spectacular place despite all the crazy stuff going on. No place to run to, no place to hide. I’ll fight for it if I have to. Love this land.
Some crappy stuff happens here at times, but this side of heaven, there is no place better in the world to live.

I was 2' away from boarding a plane at SFO, with me was my girlfriend.

In my right front pocket was an engagement ring, we were heading to Vancouver Island for a few days, then onto an Alaskan cruise, where I was going to purpose to my gal. Everything was going great, we had just been upgraded to first class for $40 more each seat.
(We were super excited, as neither of us had ever flown first class).

We are 4 to 5 steps away from boarding, and they close the plane door and tell us there has been a slight delay. Well, the delay ends up being over an hour, so I decide to go grab us a few bloody Marys.

That is when I saw the news on the bar TV and the first plane flying into the trade center, then seconds later they break away from the footage they were showing and show the second plane fly into the second building.

I say we need to get the F out of here, as our plane isn't going anywhere today.

We had been dropped off at the airport, and this is before I had a cell phone.
So I break out my AT&T calling card and start calling friends to see if they can pick us up. I made 3 calls, then for no reason my calling card stops working.

The heavily armed military and bomb dogs were evac'ing the airport, so there were thousands of people scrambling frantically to catch buses and cabs.
Then a hotel shuttle for a city south of SFO pulls up going the opposite direction we needed to go. I tell my girlfriend, too, just follow my lead. We step onto the shuttle the driver asks our reservation name, I tell him, he says that we aren't in their system, I say we better be we've had reservations for months. The driver says no problem, get in, and we will sort it out at the hotel.

We get to the hotel, I hand the driver $100 bill and ask him to call us a cab, he says no problem sir. We take a $150 cab ride home.

As soon as I get home to the phone I call AT&T and ask why my calling card stopped working in an emergency situation, the operator asks if I made 2 calls to Pakistan and 2 calls to Peru? I say not funny, she says she's not joking.
I tell her no that I did not make those calls, she says well someone did using your calling card number which is why they shut it down.

All I can think is someone sniped my number from over my shoulder.

As time goes by, and they start talking about where the hijackers were from.
Which made me question, who in the "F" was standing behind me while I was making calls, it was a weird gut wrenching feeling.

I didn't ask my girlfriend to marry me, I figured it was God's way of telling me to give it some time to make sure she was the one. A year goes by, and I ask her to marry me on a Caribbean cruise, she says yes, and we are still happily married.

Next month I'm taking her to DC, Phily, then Manhattan to see the 911 memorial because of our history together on 911.

God bless the victims & first responders, we will never forget you!!!

They found 3 box cutters stashed under seats on the plane we were supposed to fly on 911, which is not just a coincidence.

I'm going to leave our original plane tickets at the 911 wall, as my way of thanking the good Lord for watching over us that day.

We will never forget where we were on 911.

Dan.
