Well, Aldis had Tri Tip Roast here..it was pre seasoned, which was slightly upsetting to me <You just don't know what the seasoning will be like then!> But I got one any how and made it. Boy I am glad I did! My dad said it reminded him of his father's prime rib <My grandpa passed before I was born ,but he was locally known for his prime rib I've been told, so that tells me this stuff is gold!>

I can see why every one is so crazy about this!

As for my method..well I just followed the heygrillhey instructions..bring to temp..sear until a bit hotter and a nice crust. Try to slice against the grain. Admittedly, I am bad at that. So it was more slice and people kept eating as I sliced. Which for me is pretty high praise too!

<I think I need a class in slicing beef now..>

I bought one during that last sale and it was a notch or two above mediocre. Decent value.

Well given I have no way to compare it Kelbro...I just go with it was good ;)

I can see why people like them though, really tender and flavourful.

Gonna snag a few to freeze for later dates!

Pick it up and bend it if you have to. You will see the striations in the muscle. Cut perpendicular to them :-)
I just cut it at random angles and eat the bits till the angle makes it tender and then I figured I got it right.. ;)

I Know I can also look prior to cooking and you know, not cut small pieces off post cooking, but I always forgot to use the tooth pick trick prior to cooking LOL

Dang that looks perfect. Nice job. I have never done a TT but readily available here at my go to butcher shop. I really need to jump in an do one.

Lucky!! I wish it was here, alot of these 'exotic' cuts aren't so I gotta jump when I get a chance!

Looks Good Tom.

Thanks Mark! :)

If you got an Aldis near ya..stop in and get one or two for the freezer :)

I do. There's one right next to the fleet farm in Stevens point. May need to swing by and see what they got.

Doing some turkey breast roasts today. Brined them last night and headed to the smoker shortly. Tomorrow we slice them and the venison and pork loin I cured and smoked yesterday. I can't wait to try the pork loin Canadian bacon. Man that stuff smelled fantastic.

I picked up a couple more today. Going to try again and see if I can find a cooking technique that works for us.

I smoked mine to about 128f internal, and seared in a healthy amount of butter to about 131-132f IT. At that point I pulled it because I was more concerned it was looking beyond seared and more heading to burnt.

Nice stuff, both of the choices. My mom loves when I smoke turkey breast for her..I need to do more bacon. I'm doing 3 meat loaves and a buncha beer can burgers today my self. running later then I'd like..which means normal for me. I got a 10 pound tube of 80/20 beef at GFS when I met JC in GB for 13 dollars. I didn't turn it down, just unthawed it yesterday. Figured I'd smoke up a mess of meat loaves and freeze em for future meals. <In theory. In practice..it means we just eat them all in 3 days any how and then people wonder where it all went>.

If you ever get to The Valley again, hit up Penzeys and get their Berbere seasoning, it's wonderful as a flavour for Canadian bacon :)

I had my wife pick up one of these at aldi earlier this week. I went to put it on the smoker a couple hours ago and was very dissapointed with how it looked. It had a 1/4" fat cap on both sides. It also had a bout a six inch tail of pure fat. I will be pulling it off in about 15 minutes. Hopefully it tastes better than it looks
