Happy Wednesday, SMF Friends!

So I've been lazing around, doing next to nothing, since back in the spring when I finished the direct heat smoker box that B BigW. now owns.

We are finally having some cooler autumn temps around here after the summer heat tried to hang on until snow flies! And so now I'm getting the itch to start another smoker build project! The challenge is, I don't really have anything in mind. I'm out of room in my garage for storing another pit, and there's nothing I need or want to build for my own use. So I thought I'd just put the word out that I'd be tickled pink to build a custom smoker/grill/cooker for any SMF member who might be interested!

If you've watched any of my previous builds, and think you might be up for a custom pit of your own, please reach out to me and we'll put our heads together to design exactly what you want. If you haven't already seen these build threads, here are the links to the 3 builds I've posted here, if you'd like to take at look at my previous work:

Those who have followed my other builds already know this, but I'll say it again here. I build smokers because I find it fun. It's a hobby. I'm not trying to start a side hustle, or make big profits from selling these cookers to friends. If there is a particular type or style of smoker that you've dreamed of owning, I'm pretty confident that I can build it for you (within my skill level, of course) for significantly less money than a factory pit would cost from any of the major pit builders out there.

Now just a couple of disclaimers: I wouldn't agree to take someone's money for a build if I wasn't confident I can do it right. If you were to reach out, the first thing you and I would have to do is figure out if I have the tools/knowledge/skills to build it right. There are probably some designs that would be beyond what I'm capable of doing in my little home shop. You'd have my word that I wouldn't agree to take on the project until I know for sure I could swing it.

The second thing is, I'm slow! Just one old fat retired guy working alone in his home shop. If you want it fast, I'm definitely not your guy LOL! All my other builds have taken many months to finish...but I promise I took extra time to make sure I did them all the right way!

The only other requirement I'd have is, you'd have to agree to allow me to post a build thread here...so all my other buddies can follow along - that's half the fun! Plus, there are a number of talented fabricators here who've helped me out over the course of my other builds with helpful advice and suggestions.

So somebody hit me up and let's design and build your dream cooker! You can simply respond in this thread if you want. Or if you'd rather, you're welcome to send me a PM and we'll discuss it behind the scenes.

Looking forward to hearing from y'all!

I love the idea. Someone give Red some money before I give him some more of mine:emoji_laughing: He'll do a great job for you and I'll enjoy a new build thread. A win/win for all!

:emoji_laughing:

Thanks for the kind words, W! I'm hoping you're still loving the "Black Box"

Very cool, Red. I'd have to really sweet talk the boss to get a new smoker lol

I can definitely relate to that brother! More than once in my married life I've heard words similar to, "Why do you need ANOTHER smoker!?"

:emoji_wink:

From what I've seen, it is "top notch" fabrication and I certainly will be following along again. Looking forward to it 🍿

I thank you Sir, for those kind words!

Thanks brother!

I can assure you he can build a quality smoker! Just don't ask for delivery the day before snow... he heads south FAST! :emoji_laughing:

Hope you find another smoker to build for someone!

HA!! I'll just remind you Ryan, that I'm a southern boy. Around here, the whole world shuts down when the first snowflakes start flyin! :emoji_sunglasses::emoji_wink:

Thanks for the kind words my friend!

I suppose I should have mentioned, for any who didn't know, that the 3 smokers featured in my build threads are each owned by a SMF member.

The first build - the reverse flow offset smoker - is now owned by Ryan Brokenhandle Brokenhandle

The second build - the vertical offset cabinet smoker - was custom-built to order for Jim JLeonard JLeonard

And the last build - the direct heat, live fire smoker/grill - is now owned by B BigW.

I expect they wouldn't mind telling you how they like their pits if you asked.

I can honestly say the only bad thing is I don't get to use it often enough... or take the time to! But that's the same with all my smokers... just too darn busy it seems.

Maybe someone wants a gravity similar to a Stumps or Assassin?
That will get you into insulated builds

I had the same problem Ryan. "HAD" is the key word. I turned in my notice this month. I am no longer full time in the summer months starting 2026.
Yeah you're in the situation where hogs are as children and a full time career. Think about someone to hire to take over the load so you can step back and be a grandpa

Currently most of my time is working on being a grandpa closer to our granddaughter... as in them moving 3 hours closer to us... as in a mile away. It's a project but a very important one to us!
