Red (Willow) Oak splits

So these splits come from a willow oak tree out of the red oak family. The color and texture (a bit stringy) seem a little different from what I’m used to seeing, but I wonder if that’s because they’re still so green. For those who have used a lot of red oak, is this roughly what you’re used to seeing?

Red oak family tends to have more of a stringy loose grain where as white oak is tight. IMHO red oak has a lower heat output then white so I mainly use as a flavoring wood.
Yeah, I’ve heard that. This was an “opportunistic” pull though as the tree fell over during a storm so it’s sort of what Mother Nature has given me in some sense so I Would like to make it work.
