Hey all,

I'm new here and hoping y'all can give me a recommendation on which to pick up:

I make jerky, often sliced (like HardTimes, etc), but I want to get into making some sausage style as well. I also have brisket trimmings and a ton of venison I need to grind up.

I'm unlikely to use this more than a few times a year, but when looking at the offerings from Bass Pro, the commercial ones come with replacement grates, blades etc.

I likely can do with the cheaper models just fine, but I'd hate to get something only to find out I can't get replacement parts for it... A bit of "fear of missing out" on that.

Curious:
  • Do these parts really ever need replacement?
  • Do the lower ends come with, or have available replacements
  • Any particular model you like (doesn't have to be from Bass Pro, but really helps with my impulse buy when I can just go grab it)
Really appreciate any info!

I have a Cabelas 1hp. #22 grinder. I've been using it over 25 years. Between venison burger and family sausage we average 5-600 pounds of meat a year. I also have the cube steak attachment that gets a workout every year too.
It has been absolutely trouble free. My grandson will get years of service from it too.

This one will do what you need.

I have the same Weston grinder as Doug @DougE
I picked it up 2 or 3 years ago as I got it really cheap. I grind oh about 100# of meat a year.

Most of the plates are fairly interchangeable from brand to brand.
Knifes are less interchangeable from brand to brand.
As long as you keep the plates flat and the knife sharp they will go for years

From Bass Pro... I would go with the commercial 1/2hp #8... It's more than enough and will grind anything you put to it... It's what I have... It's not overkill but like I say..; It will handle anything you want to do with it...

When I was thinking about getting a grinder everyone told me to get bigger than you think you will need. I ended up with the Cabela's commercial grade 1hp. Glad I did as I use it more than I ever thought I would. I also bought the foot pedal and meat mixer. After hunting season we will mix up 25-100lbs of sausage, along with 50lbs+ of scrap meat for dog food. Haven't had a single problem in over 15 years, and I never have to worry about any over heating of the grinder. Have yet to need to replace anything. Make sure whatever you have has metal gears and not plastic.

I don't see LEM in the page you linked at Bass Pro. But, that being said I bought a LEM #12 3/4hp "big bite" unit a while back and have loved it. It eats everything I throw at it, frozen or partially frozen or raw. I'm not sure who makes Cabela's branded grinders, but LEM has been in business quite a while and I would expect them to be around for a while longer.

The 3/4hp #12 is plenty for me and is probably overkill. But it's easy to find #12 plates and knives on the secondary market also.

I don't have a current LEM catalog, but they usually have a discount code for 15 or 20% off items in the grinder price range. Someone else may have that and can post it.

Thanks guys, going to run out and grab one and get some sausage smoking!

Really appreciate you!
