RE Edit lock on posts

I know that someone mentioned a mod could allow someone to modify an older post. I'm wondering though if there is a setting that could just make that permanent for everyone? I often modify and improve my recipes over time as do most of us. Would be nice to update older posts so that we share the most current info. Perhaps it's not doable or there is a reason to not do it that I'm not getting. Anyway thought I'd ask.

Not sure Jeff... I think they have said it's because they don't want disgruntled members to go back and start deleting older posts to the point of them not making sense. But don't quote me on that... I'm just a newbie lol!

A forum I am a moderator on locks the thread for editing after 14 days because after that time. We believe that editing is a moot point. And complicates the forum software.

Not sure on that forums content but here as we change ,improve or catch mistakes in recipes it's nice to go back and update so folks get the best version. Not a huge deal but would be nice.

Here on SMF editing was removed because certain folks were most likely drunk posting and then continuously editing their posts after the fact when they posted something completely stupid or insulting. Someone in Admin simply removed the edit option after a certain amount of time.

You could quote your initial post, and add the updated version that way.

Same with the forum I help with. People will go back after a few weeks. And change their thoughts after others followed your lead. It confuses people. And causes problems.

Yes. You can. Which is a better option. Lord knows I correct myself a few times after I post. But, it is within a few minutes after I did my spell check. I suck at typing!!

That's the way it used to be , but OP's were going back and deleting all their content from threads they started , making it un usable and just creating clutter . I think now it is 7 days from the time you start the thread until they disable the edit feature .

Editing Older Threads

In the past I've been able to edit older threads. Now it seems that that ability is gone. Is this a recent change, is this permanent? If it is such, it sucks.

Yep could do that but if other folks stumble on th thread it's likey they use recipe in the OP. Like I said no biggie just a wishlist thing.

Jeff any admin can give you the ability to edit your posts but it is a limited time thing for most of the reasons already mentioned. We have had "Long time good members even OTBS" go in and delete every post they ever made and it sure makes a lot of threads about impossible to follow with those posts deleted.
