How does an oversized firebox affect your pit? Mine is 1.5 times bigger than needed by pit calculator.

Other than heating more thermal mass, you should be fine. I would rather have a firebox over sized than undersized.
Thank You....it cooked pretty well without basket so far. Just wondering if it would be problematic with extended cooks, i.e. too much air for slow controlled burn.

Your air would be controlled by your intakes regardless of the size. Just make sure you got a draft and the fire/heat is being pulled through.
