I am making pulled dork for a basketball tournament this weekend. I won't be able to run the smoker and do it the way I prefer, when I'm at home. Does anyone have a good way to cook it in a slow cooker so it doesn't dry out while giving lots of flavor? Is it best to dry rub it first, or cook in a liquid like coke? I'd love any recipes or suggestions you have. Thanks so much!

My SIL made pulled pork in a crockpot when we were at her house in Florida. Basically, she put the bone-in shoulder blade in the crock pot with it ¼ full of water and let it cook all day (8 hours). Then, she removed the bone and most the water, leaving some juice in the cooker and poured BBQ sauce in, about a cup, then shredded it, mixing it all up and served. It was good, but not like real pulled pork with a smoky flavor. I suggested she use a smoky BBQ sauce next time (very gently with buckets of praise so she'd continue to cook for us, lol!)

I just did 2 lamb shoulders in the slow cooker this weekend. Rubbed with herbs and spices, no liquid, cooked on low. Pulled perfectly. It would work with pork butt too.
