I never really gave it much thought, which is weird because I'm a little cynical by nature, but my step dad always said they owed you 16-17 lbs when you fill a tank.  I just switched to a propane smoker so I started paying attention.  I have been filling mine at an Ace Hardware and usually come home with a little over 17 lbs of gas once you take away the tare weight of the tank.  They charge $20 to take it to that weight no matter where it was when you took it in.

Swapping tanks around here cost between $17-20.  I guess it would be better to swap a light tank and better to have an empty one refilled.

I pay $1.79/ gallon for a tank fill.  Doesn't matter what size tank 20lb-100lb.  (I have a wet line on my house tank

I have been exchaneing for new tanks at acadmey for $15+tax. I have been getting refills for $12 at ferrell gas.
That's awesome, why so cheap?

Exchange is costing you approximately $3.35 and the refill is $2.53, either way Its better than what I'm getting.

That refill price is on Friday only. But I have 5 tanks. My uncle told me tractor supply will refill for $9. But I haven't. Cheked it out yet.

That is what it cost me per gallon to have my  two 500 gal tanks filled last August.  I used to deliver propane some years ago, so i installed a wet line on my bulk tank specifically for filling my grill tanks and other stuff.
