Posted this in propane also. getting a smoker for my birthday but gas or electric?? Electric easier to control temps but not as much smoke at lower temps? Please share your thoughts

Get an A-maze-n pellet smoker tray for consistent smoke and you don't have to load chips constantly. Electric is inexpensive to operate.

I'm not sure if more people use the Tube smoker vs tray with propane. Hopefully someone will get you that answer here or in the propane forum.

If you're going wothnpripane you will need the tube smoker. Will work until the pit temps get above 285. At least that's been my experience.

Works great below that temp and for cold smoking with no heat.
 
Never had a gas smoker, but I love my MES 40 smoker. As mentioned before get the A-maz-n tray and you get plenty of smoke, and about as set and forget you can get.
