I am very new to the whole smoking thing but I am very excited to learn. I have one question and pardon my ignorance haha but when they say preheat to whatever temp do you just preheat put in the meat then start the smoke? Or get smoke and heat rolling? I have the Bradley smoker. Thanks and sorry for the basic question but trying to get started on the right foot!

I'm not familiar with your smoker, so I can't say for sure what you should do.

For me I always preheat with the smoke rolling.

Of course with a charcoal or wood smoker you really don't have much choice.

But even with my propane smoker I put the wood in when I fire it up.

I am going to season it tonight then hopefully this weekend start smoking. Do you think a 15ft 12 gauge extension cord will be ok? I don't have an outlet near the smoker.
