Thing is guys without the "drama" the show probably would not have a chance. As silly as it seems that is simply what the average viewer wants is a little drama, thats the only way to keep normal people that don't live and breathe Q like we do interested.
As far as Myron goes you gotta give him credit for his success and figure it is his attitude that has brought this to him. He is no nonsense, there to win money.
I think the majority of us would not compete this way. I would be much more interested in the social side of it.
Either way I think we should all count our blessings for the fact that there is now a tv show dedicated to what we all love.
Like him or not It is hard to argue with Myrons results.
I personally started out liking Lee ann but I am starting to get tired of the whining. Seems like she should be a little better prepared while competing at this level,of course if she needs a little help???

Thus the problem with "reality" tv shows. You used the word stage or staged twice in describing it. I am just not a fan of all the so called reality tv and I guess that includes this one for me.

I would much prefer they produce a show that actually gives you something you can take away from it and use. Recipes, techniques, methods, howto's from building a fire to construction of offset smokers and reverse flow units. Critiques of how various smokers stack up against one another, different cooking techniques required for using a vertical over a horizontal, tour the Lang manufacturing facility so on and so forth.
But thats just me.

Good point about Leanne...the other thing I've noticed with her and Tuffy...the worse they think they have done, the better they place in that comp! Funny...but I guess it goes to show once again that a lot depends on the judges that end up with your product.

I'm having fun watchin it. You just have to remember.... it's a reality show that is staged to entertain.... not a documentary. If I had the choice of watching a reality show about Qin and a documentary... I'd pick the documentary. I don't usually miss the shows on Travel or TLC that have something to do with cookin but this show is fun to watch.

Maybe your daughter and her daughter could team up and beat the both of you in a competition.

Of course, you may have to adjust cooking procedures for them.

I noticed Myron didn't bring the full wagon last night, instead he had his pull behind. The wife was reading crap off craigslist she wanted to buy so I wasn't getting to pay full attention last night, but did he say why? I didn't remember him using that this whole time until this comp.

Last weeks episode had some foreshadowing in it, if i remember correctly LeeAnne's BF said "We'll see if I'm here next week". Pretty sure he was set on bail already.

I still enjoy this show and I think it is getting better. Thursday is the one night the wife doesn't have sissy stuff set up on auto tune, so as long as I can keep Thursday night on lock down I'll be tuned in.

edit: It never showed it, but I wonder what Tuffy's wife said to him the very moment when Myron was announced #1 in brisket?!

I'm sure almost all of us here on the forum would love a show like that too. I doubt that it would generate much viewership outside of us hard core smoke-heads. No one, not even Food Network or the Documentary Channel, would undertake a series like you mentioned that would have such a small potential audience.

While I don't care much for the drama either, I realize that it is necessary to attract & keep an audience. Isn't a BBQ show with some staged drama better than no BBQ show at all?

I am sure her daughter would kick my butt BUT I stil offfer to be her apprentice ! My daughter would fall right in with hers and cooking ...

After that show I am starting this weekend to practice cooking chicken thighs !

The show over all wasn't to bad. I thought Leanne was pretty lame looking when her Guru wasn't working and she had to call for help. First thing most would have done was to check all the connections. Instead she has to call the dude from Guru to come and fix it for her.

Watched a few minutes of it. The blond did look silly with her fan-driven thing not working, and they ALL looked silly complaining about the weather.

That was when I switched back to the hockey game, which was no longer in commercials :)

The thing about this show is that the producers can't script the ending... Unlike shows like "The Next Food Network Star", their stars here can get their butts (No Pun Intended) kicked and not even win in any category without them being able to do a damn thing about it.

I think Lee Ann is just there for window dressing, she strikes me as the type who would even get on your nerves as a one night stand...

Well not to worry we are running out shows quickly . TLC only bought 8 shows and they have now shown six I beleive . I did notice no Trigg and no Paul both from Texas .

I don't know anybody that's not a little stressed out when they are competing. I actually think they're doing a pretty good job of keeping their composure. I know I've had to apologize to a couple of my buddies before on Saturday afternoon.

But of course, the creaters of the show wanted to show a woman. I think they even went so far as to say something about Leann holding her own in a male dominated competition. That's the way TV folks do things.

Gotta say that after watching the show I'm glad I didn't go to it, forgot how bad the weather was!
It was funny, worked at a few restaurants while living in Dover and both were almost right in front of the racetrack, one was right there and one a stones throw away.
Race weekend was the worst, the race ends (we had someone over there to keep us updated since lots of people start to leave 10 or so laps early) and you just see a wave of thousands and thousands of people coming your way!

Pretty much what I was thinking
Agreed about it being stressfull,,,, but boys look at her she is what she is....
Congrats to her she has more aclaim for her smokes than I do..

Well, her BF did break up with her just before the competition. So you might be onto something.

I just watched this episode last night. Myron was saying how he likes this competition because they pay out in CASH!!!!! And the Tuffy was there saying how Myron hadn't even paid him for the brisket he had given to Myron. Myron is such a tool.
