Hello everyone,
New member Tom here and happy to have found a group of people who seem to love grilling and smoking as much as myself.

Previously I have been creative with my smoking with a charcoal grill, soaked wood chips and aluminum foil shrouds to direct my smoke to whatever goody I'm working on but my wife and I decided to spend a little of our "Joe Dough" stimulus check on a pellet smoker.
Always wanted a pellet smoker and Pit Boss came highly recommended.

Anyone considering purchasing a Cadillac smoker should probably dig around for negative reviews as well as those positive ones after all mine was about 600 bucks including the cover.
Here's what I've found thus far (remember i still love it but...):
1 this thing is Very heavy get a helper for assembly and getting it out of your truck.
2 assembly is impossible alone unless you are stretch arm strong. And you'll want to have extra washers because we were shorted a few (buy washers Larger than what they provide, you'll know why)
3 This may not be the case for Every unit but is for mine.
The Power On button is faulty. You can lightly, heavily, mediumly? Press the panel, rub it wiggle it, try hot finger or cold and it just won't turn on until it's darn good and ready. I even tried left handed standing on one foot rubbing my belly with my right hand. AND WORSE?
The thing has powered itself OFF mid smoking, once during a nap, and then of course getting it powered up again was a fight.
I ended up putting my briskit in the oven while i fought with the power button.

Other than those minor issues I love it and after pork ribs, chicken, beef riblets, and today's brisket?
I'll never go back to wood chips or charcoal again. Pellet smokers are awesome.

Contact Pit Boss they are extremely helpful with situations like that. Sounds like you might have got one with a faulty power switch. I love my Pit Boss I've had it about three years now.

Update:
Ok, my new controller came from Pit Boss yesterday, quickly put it in this morning.
Not Only is the faulty power issue gone but it's the new temperature control in 10° increments rather than 50°.
It'll be much easier to hold at 225 or 250 now.

I also hung one of the 4 meat probes in the barrel to check "actual" temp. With a second probe in an oversized Turkey. I found, at least in the current weather, there is a 5-20° difference in the readings. I went with the lower meat probe reading and the bird came out Great!
The warranty covered the part and they don't need me to ship back the old one. If anyone is interested.
