So I got done with some progress this weekend ..after battling -55 degree temps ,2 feet of snow and a bad cold and a bum ankle I was able to get most of my trailer done (still have to wire it) this weekend ..I made a removable tongue (we have a lot of thief's in this town) that I thought turned out pretty good.. the trailers upside down in this pict..as you probaly can tell I have limited work space ..now I'm going to make a Aframe to hoist this tank

Tall firebox vs long firebox ...what are the advantages and disadvantages..I'm thinking a taller firebox would be better but I dont think the end of my drive will let me ..any opinion

For what it is worth, I have found erroring on longer rather than taller fb seems to draft better resulting in more efficient combustion. I also see less creosote build up and condensation. That said, I have never had two identical builds available to thermocouple up and run a side by side comparison. I suspect so long as the inlets are properly placed and sized, either shape will work adequately. Sometimes a person just has to make what they have work.

So I figure I'm going to have to go with the longer firebox ..today i finished up building my gantry and I put the tank on the trailer to see how the height was ..I left the orginal feet on the tank which are 3 1/2" ..once I got the tank sitting on the trailer it seemed a bit tall...the bottom of the door is measuring at 40" and the top of tank 57 ..me being taller than most people I can live with it..but for somone that's average height it might be a little tough swinging the door open ..just wondering if I should cut the original legs off and drop it 3 1/2" ..I see some people on the net leave them on ..not sure what the norm is

Only thing you need to ask yourself is “who am I making this smoker for?” If it is shorter peoples, cut ‘em, if it for you and you are comfortable with it as, keep ‘em!

Thought I woul give a little update .got my fb all welded up and mounted to the trailer ..I decided to insulate the firebox at the last minute ..so ir took a little more time than I thought ..I did lose a little more room for the firebox required size but I think it being insulated will make up for it ..heres a few pict snd thanks to kmmamm snd everyone else for all the good advice

Pretty close to being done ..I seasoned it up and temps across were pretty good ..the top racks where with in 5 degrees from each other ..the bottom racks were about 30 degrees from each other ..the bottom left rack to the top rack was the biggest difference which was between 100 and 75 degrees but I'll live with it .I've done 2 burns so far and ive notice I get better even temps when I slowly heat it up
