Morning all,
So, back in early May. I sold a couple of my cheese cutting boards to a guy and his sister. The guy, Rich, said he had a new Vevor 40" by 14" wood lathe that he got. And never used. And said I could have it if I made him a couple of things with it for him. I politely declined because I thought it was strange for someone I just met to make an offer like that. And I really had no room for it. During the week he again offered it through Face Book messenger.
I say, ok, I'll take it.
So, the next weekend at the camp. He shows up in his golf cart with the thing hanging over the back seat.
And, it is new. Never been used. I told Rich it would be at least a month before I'd get something made. I had to remember how to use it. Haven't touched one since high school.

I brought it home. And ordered a few teak bowl blanks. Just blocks of wood. Over the last few weeks, I gave it a go. First one wasn't pretty. Blew through the side of the bowl when taking out the inside. Ordered a set of measuring calipers to keep track of how much wood I was taking out.
After a careful three days of gradually working the wood. I got this.

Pretty basic bowl. But Rich loves it. So, that's all that matters. I'll need to sand some more. After the first coat of finish. I saw a few scratches that the water spritzes didn't reveal. I enjoyed doing this. God, help me! Another hobby to burn the green on!! I'll make a bench to put this on at some point. Way to busy on other things at the moment.

Damn Steve ,,, Like riding a bike ! That's really nice for a first project in a few years .

NICE LOOKING PROJECT STEVE-O, GOOD TO SEE YOU'RE STAYING BUSY! I'D IMAGINE THAT SAVES QUITE A BIT OF TIME OVER HAVING TO USE A HAMMER AND GOUGE-CHISEL?

Very nice Steve!!!
I used to turn duck and goose calls on a Jet Mini lathe, turning is a blast.

Very cool! I only dabble in woodworking, but most of what I do is lathe work. If you want to expand your line of gorgeous cutting boards to include other kitchen items, knife blocks and rolling pins are fun.

Before I moved back West, I belonged to a woodturning club that turned countless tops, that we sold to benefit a children's charity, and occasionally wig stands to donate to a women's cancer charity.

And, of course, pens. Everybody makes pens.
