Hey everyone I'm new to smoking and the forum. I've used this forum quite regularly for my smoking adventures.
I'm about to throw some PBfit peanut butter powder and some ground black pepper in my mes 30 with my cold smoker attachment and I've got a question. Is there any health risk in smoking powders or anything else for that matter? Like I said I'm new to this and from my understanding the cold smoker can put off creosote and something like a powder might pick up a large amount versus something else like cheese.

"Is there any health risk in smoking powders or anything else for that matter?"

Well, some think not. But I've seen a few lives messed up by folks smokin powders and wacky tobacco.....

Lookit, you can live till you die... Or you can worry to death...
But which ever way you go, you go.

In the 1970's, my Grandma was diagnosed with lung cancer. I sat down and wrote her a letter. It turned into a pouring of the heart. And when Grandma passed, and my Mama and her baby Sister, my Aunt Arlene, were setting going through Grandma's personal effects they came across Grandma's Bible.
One of 3 things Grandma had in her Bible was my letter of Love for her, and what she had meant in my life.
After I wrote that letter I made a decision for me. I decided to live till I die.

You might be at a fork, so do you want to live till you die? Or worry till you die?
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Put that in your powder and smoke it.
If you never try, you will always wonder.

Smoke some salt to go with that pepper.... ;)

Awesome response Sonny! I Really appreciate it.

I supposed I should have mentioned the biggest reason I'm concerned is my wife is pregnant and I'd hate to brew up something nasty that could make them sick. Thanks again for your response!

Pregnancies bring on a whole flood of different mysteries in the Womenfolks. Sometimes just a whiff of something can bring on nausea to outright sprints for a place to throw up.
And it seems to be a bit different with each.
If there is any concerns, they'd be best taken up with her attending Doctor. Not that a Doctor has all the right answers, but their expertise is a cornerstone to a healthy Mother and Baby.
She'll let you know. If you come in smelling of smoke, and it gets you run back outside, then maybe you should curtail your smoking until that phase passes. ;)
I believe the human body is a marvelous thing. It provides to the developing baby from the Mother's body. And everything is prepared before it is fed to the baby by the blood.
In order to injure the Baby, the Mother would have to be poisoned first. You are not going to do that.
You are a concerned and careful parent to be.
She, and You, will know and find the boundaries for your home. Some girls are naturals, some have occasional issues.
But all of that fades away when you hold your child. There is no greater miracle than a baby.
I wish you both an easy and wonderful pregnancy, and an easy birth.
First Baby?

I would go ahead with your planned smoke. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
I'd suggest that as you experiment, do so in smaller increments. Test, test, test... find what amount of time tastes best to you (both). But you be the "guinea pig", taking a tiny taste.
I tend to still over-smoke things. And although I will eat the evidence to destroy it, I would not suffer some of my errors on anybody else. Cooking is an experiment. So is smoking. Err toward the cautious side, if in doubt, throw it out.
You will find your way, both with smoking, and with parenting. :)

All I can say is don't try a taste with a teaspoon and try to draw a breath at the same time  bout chocked ta death

Evening TM. I can't give you a definite answer on smoking powders. But I can tell you this. I do it all the time. I smoke paprika, cinnamon, hot chocolate mix, ground coffee, and...well that's all that come to mind. I share what I smoke with my friends and family to use at home. Nobody has ever got sick after consuming any of these (unless there was a large amoun of bourbon also consumed LOL). Over the course of this winter alone I went through 2 pounds of cold smoked hot chocolate mix--just me drinking it. I just recently smoked another 2 pounds of hot choc mix and a bunch of paprika and my brother-in-law just put in a request for more coffee.
But......this is just me saying.
