Hi all,

I was wondering if I could paint my Brinkman. The first time I used it, a couple of years ago, I got the fire too hot

and all the paint on the front part of it bubbled up and flaked off. It's getting rusty and while I didn't pay a ton for it, I still would like it to last a couple more years! What do you guys think?

I used to paint mine (fire box) but it seems the paint would never last long. This year I started rubbing the fire box down with lard after most smokes, it's worked great. Ya can't hardly tell what's painted and what is seasoned. Of course wire brush the rust off first.

If you paint it you should use High Temp paint and don't paint the inside...

No, it doesn't seem to be fragile, it's not that old. Maybe it's just a girl thing, but I want it to be all shiny and purdy. LOL! I like the idea about rubbing it down with oil to keep the rust off. I hope I have gotten a better grasp on how much wood is "too much" at one time now. Live and learn! I think I'll put a little elbow grease in to her, she sure has come through for me!
