Our deck was getting a bit of dry-rot. It was time to replace it with the uber-expensive composite. Wow - what a transformation!

Before, during renovation and after shots.
Replaced one warped upright as well.

Weber gas grill and high-heat grill/smoker (Brinkman tank!) back on the deck.
MES40 is down below under the covered portion.

Nice, I wish ours would be that easy.

We need to do the same, except I think we need to do posts and all. I already added stainless channels around the base of the taller posts because they were clearly rotting away. Deck planks are like hard Styrofoam! I pulled one up to get a rotting ground hog I shot that ran up under the low deck (ours is two tier, one portion just above ground level and another about 4 feet high) and when I went to pull it up thinking it was going to pull the nails up as I did, it snapped right in half!

30 year old deck...we need to do it before we get too old and broke...

Going to do away with the deck and just have a landing at the door, 8’ wide concrete and 2 steps into the side door, lumber is higher than concrete these days, ours is a little over 30 and needs replaced,

Nice update. Yeah that fake wood is dreadfully expensive.
I need to replace the concrete steps to the house. Planning a small landing and it will be real wood posts and joists with composite deck

That looks great!
When we bought our house last year, the home inspector noted a number of issues with our deck, so we knew we'd have some expense this year getting the structural issues taken care of. Now with quotes coming in, most contractors say the deck is too far gone to fix, so it'll be a tear-down and replace.
The first couple of quotes are for sums that would buy a nice starter home in parts of the US. We're stunned. It is a big deck, and the top level is 24' above ground level, but still...

That's beautiful!! What brand of decking did you go with? I've been doing some research into composition decking and fixing to pull the trigger on a major project. Any tips would be appreciated.

Looks great. I like the hidden fasteners, best way to go. Looks same color I have on my deck, little different pattern. Price to pay someone to build a deck is rediculously expensive. It is a lot of work to do yourself, but I am too cheap to pay what someone else wants.

I just got done expanding my deck around the hottub, included a removable panel so I would have access to the pumps and heater. The beam right next to the hottub is removable, just sitting tightly in a joist hanger and not nailed/screwed. Panel sits on the 2x4 ledge. Had to plan ahead so the deck boards could be removed. Can't tell that the decking panel lifts out unless you really look hard.

Is that your gas line going through the joists, i guess it is because it is Yellow.
Sorry I answered my own question.
DRKsmoking DRKsmoking - Yes - its for a nat-gas grill (from original owners). Mine Weber is propane and works fine. Not worth doing a conversion kit as we don't use the Weber grill much.
