There are a few here know that my wife is dealing with reoccurring Ovarian cancer. It has been almost a year since I mentioned it and I'm sure some are wondering how we are doing. And to answer that, we are doing well.
Pam's was accepted into a clinical trial at KU in February and the experience has been great! The new chemo therapy drug that is being studied is known as ASP3082. It has diminished the tumor in her neck by 50% and totally resolved two masses on her right lung. Regular scans have detected no new tumors. That's a huge WIN!
It has not been all roses though, due to two failed attempts at placing a port in her upper extremities. The tumor on her jugular vein blocked access on both sides. So, we have been getting IV's every Monday morning early before her scheduled infusion. By we, I mean her. Three weeks ago, the vascular surgeon placed a port into her femoral vein and we have now had two successful infusions through that port. That has totally changed our outlook going forward. Without the port, she was going to have to exit the clinical trial due to the veins in her arms could not take any more IV's. Now we can continue this journey.
What I find totally amazing about this new drug is the lack of side effects, no nausea, no hair loss. Just mild fatigue.
So, there you have it. All things considered, we're doing great.
