On this rainy day I'm being a complete faker with the oven

The radar looked rather nasty but we didn't get any tough  weather yet. I ran my errands beforehand and found a deal on a slab of ribs. I've had them rubbed and in the oven at 225F since 13:00 EST. I don't see much pullback yet (3:50 in) but I think I'll brush them with Sweet Baby Ray's. They're developing some bark already.

Linda has been asking for ribs, since I brought half a slab from a good BBQ restaurant about 2 miles from here. That place is good, and it gives me a benchmark to meet. We want to see what their smoked chicken is like. Apparently all their smoke is hickory.

They turned out OK but nothing special. Sort of a smokeless benchmark. Next time, FOIL, that was a stubborn pan to clean.

They're calling for more rain today but there's nothing on the radar yet.

Yep, we've all done that for one reason or another.  The only thing missing is the smoke flavor.  I was a bit under the weather on Sunday, and not rain like above.  Had a nice 3 lb chuck cross rib roast to make roast beef but couldn't muster the energy to fire up the smoker.  Was contemplating ordering a pizza for dinner when my wife said "just do the roast in the oven."  I did.

Send some of that rain to California!

Yes, I have some smoked paprika plus a few hot smoked pepper powders. Maybe I could experiment with the Badia chipotle sauce which has a vinegar base similar to a Carolina BBQ sauce.

Rain update: we just got flash-flood warnings.
