It's good to see the world come together for something...

With all the hatred and animosity out there, I love seeing people put there differences aside to celebrate this wonderful event.

Its an amazing ceremony for sure!

GO USA!
TAKE ALL 8 MICHAEL!

Love watching the Olympics, too. I am a track & field nut. Opening Ceremonies were amazing. I still have more of it to watch on the DVR.

However, I gotta say, US style coverage of the events is always pretty bad. It is mostly mellow drama without any real action. (I know US audiences get bored watching track & field races.)

Since I live near Windsor, Ontario I always try to find the CBC channel. They do it right IMHO.

i agree, it was an impressive and very artistic opening ceremony, and there were moments of sheer beauty.

however, on the other side of that......

hopefully, this will be a new era in china and some old problems will be dealt with and put behind all of us.

flyin' i am afraid i have to agree with your assessment of american coverage. far too much effort on artificially manufacturering "olympic moments."

having said that........USA all the way! and may the best competitors win......

Well. I was real excited about this but the man that was murdered at a tourist site lives here. I've met him a few times but he wouldn't know me from Adam. He was the CEO of a VERY popular and successful floral buisness that is "the" place to go in Minneapolis. His family run business has been in business here for 123 years.

He was a nice, gentle man and I go to Church with his Brother and Sister-In-Law. ( who are nice people and great benefactors ) .

Puts a damper on the Beijing Olympics for me.

v-man - my condolences on your town's loss. it was a very unexpected and tragic event and i am shocked that it happened. in spite of my criticism of china politically, i am sure that it was a random event by a lunatic.

p.s. -i haven't had much luck yet finding any recipes for hot and sour soup, but i've got quite a few books to go through yet, so keep the faith!

It's just a community loss.
Thanks.

As for the soup. I've got recipes from the net so don't sweat it.
I just thought if you had one you use it'd be worth a try as you come up with some darn good stuff.

Ditto. I'm sure we won't hear the words the murderer said before he dove off the tower either. I'll wager it was anti-US. Or at least along those lines.

Richtee -
Chinese press said "they wore nothing that showed they were or identified them as Americans" - Ahhhhhh, they left out the part they were SPEAKING ENGLISH to each other. Nice try on spin.

It's just sad that a guy who has life by the ........
Goes to the Olympics, with his former Olympic Daughter to watch his Daughters Olympic Husband Coach the Volleyball team

Meet his demise in front of his Daughters eyes.

HIDEOUS. Wrong, and just plain not right.

But, as Forrest said "Stuff" happens.

Sorry. I just feel compelled to print this. I know his family and am Fraternal brothers with his Dad. (college and Masonry)

Open letter from Hugh and Elisabeth McCutcheon

By Hugh and Elisabeth McCutcheon
August 11, 2008

During this tremendously difficult time, we have been blessed to be surrounded by a tremendous support system of caring individuals and organizations. We are extremely grateful for the outpouring of assistance and generosity that we have received and hope to convey our appreciation to everyone who has supported us and kept us in their thoughts and prayers.

The long list of people who have offered their assistance, kind words and prayers to us has been incredible. This letter cannot do justice in acknowledging the love and support weâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]ve felt. However, to begin with, weâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]d like to express our deep gratitude to the following:

First, weâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]d like to thank our family and friends, who have been ceaseless in sending their prayers and love to our families.

Weâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]d like to thank the talented and caring staff and physicians at the local hospital that is working around the clock to attend to the recovery of our Mom. Weâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]d also like to express our gratitude to the officials from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Mayor of Beijing, and their staff members who have been with us here at the hospital.

Weâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]d like to thank President Bush and Ambassador Randt for their kind words and strength. We also thank the U.S. Embassy and its staff for everything theyâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]ve done.

Weâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]d like to thank the USA Volleyball family for their never-ending support. It is a close-knit family that is close to our hearts and close to the hearts of our parents, Todd and Barbara.

Weâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]d like to thank the United States Olympic Committee for their immediate assistance and willingness to attend to all of our needs, and for being with us here at the hospital throughout.

Weâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]d like to thank the generous sponsors who have made their resources available to us without question, specifically Johnson & Johnson.

Weâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]d like to thank the FIVB for its flexibility and support of our coaches and athletes.

Weâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]d like to thank the International Olympic Committee and the Beijing Organizing Committee for their support throughout this tragedy.

And finally, weâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]d like to thank everyone who has kept our families in their thoughts and prayers throughout our difficult time. We send a special thank you to the people of Beijing, the people of New Zealand, and of course, the people of America. We have been lifted up by the outpouring of support and love weâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]ve received from around the world.
