I'm thinking that's not factory install....   I would not use it....   too dangerous....

Perhaps a fire starter? Could it be a natural gas/propane burner to get the fire wood/charcoal up to temp and smoking?.

Do you have a photo of the burner in the firebox?

Yea its a fire starter. The grate inside the firebox is all rusted out. I've seen pics of others, but cant figure out what model of OKJ it is.
