Every Wednesday I get supermarket flyers in the mail.

We have Albertsons and Krogers here. Every week Albertsons has some gimic ad for their meat buy one and get one free.

Well, tonight blew my gasket.

Baby Back Ribs buy one get 2. That's good right?

WELL NOT BAD! REGULAR RETAIL PRICE 6.99 A POUND?

Now that is not a bad price at 2 a pound, but many times it is buy 1 get one. They usually double the price and give you one, HA! Screw them.

I live in an area where ther are a lot of hispanics and native americans and am wondering if they are preying on them? Please no offence here, but do they think people are so stupid to think Baby Backs are worth 7 dollars a pound? They can kiss my ass unless I can screw them and at 2 dollars a pound I will get some if they look good. At least Krogers ads are more honest.

Thanks for listening.

In the business it's called "merchandising" - smoke and mirrors to make you think you're getting a deal.

Good example, boneless pork chops 3.29 lb., thin-sliced boneless pork chops, 3.99 lb. No more loss with the thin sliced than with the regular sliced that you can cut in half thickness wise with a bit of skill, but more profit, lower package price to make you think they're a better deal when you're paying more. Tricks of the trade, my friend.. dozens of ways you can save at the meatcounter with a little bit of knowledge, and a good sharp knife!

We've got Schnucks and Kroger here...Schnucks is much more likely to try that than Kroger....Unless they lower the per lb price, I'm doing the math every time....much simpler to go get a double pack of Butts at Sam for $139 lb regular price.

Schnucks here has whole pork butts on sale for $.99 a pound. What is good is spareribs for $1.59 a pound and St Louis syle for $2.29 a pound. $.70 more for them to cut the tips off and keep them to sell as rib tips. I can cut them for free and have the tips.

It pisses me off as well. Here in my area Winn Dixie pulls this stuff on their buy one get one. The price per pound is higher than anyone else so you are getting a deal but not as good as it sounds and that's only if you have their preferred BS card.

The 10 for $10 is getting old as well.

Publix recently has had corn 8/$2.00. In their most recent circular they had corn 12/$3.00. Same price no? Often the 2 for $X.XX makes it seem like a better deal when in fact there can be little savings.

If you ever need a current circular, here is a website that list most retail store's circulars. Makes it easy to compare prices

Ron,
Jewel does that here. Not surprised though Alberton's owns Jewel
