As said they were on sale at the local market. They were labeled as USDA Inspected so you know what that means. Found a pack with decent marbling.

Prepped up with my steak rub

Cooked on the pellet smoker for about 7-8 minutes a side.

Here they are resting

Here it is sliced. This one was for my wife that wanted a little more cooked than me at Med Rare

Not bad for USDA Inspected beef but you get what you pay for id say.

Thanks

A couple of times a year "that guy" with the refrigerated box truck shows and has meat at insanely low prices, but like you said you get what you pay for.

Looks good to me! or as I like to say "good enough for the girls I go out with"

Don't get me wrong the flavor was there just the meat tenderness was where it was lacking.

You didn't tell us what the sale price was! They look a little thin for my preference. I have had 3/4" thick steaks be tough for me before, it's hard to cook them right if they are too thin in my opinion when direct grilling. You did a great job of keeping them from going beyond medium. Cant tell that thickness exactly but I'm usually looking for 1-1/4" to 1-1/2" thick cuts.

When Kroger here puts the strips on sale they actually encourage you to tell the butcher your preferred thickness. A nice thick steak like that is too much for me and the wife to have one each plus sides, so I grill just one for us, carve it, removing most of the fat and plate the pieces on a warmed plate.

I can't remember if it was $5.99 or$6.99/lb but it was one of the 2. 3 of them were just over an inch thick and the 4th was just under.
