Now I Went and Did It!

I need everyone to be really good for the next few days as I can't type out reprimands very well right now

ok..ok.. you wanna know why I am sure and I can't just leave ya hangin'..

Yesterday while smoking 3 slabs of baby backs and 4 yard birds.. I got a notion for a cappuccino smoothie..

Normally my daughter would make this for me but she was busy so I set out to do it myself.

To make a long story short and because I am having difficulty typing.. I went to grab the cup that holds the contents and when I did, the cup flew off at that exact instant and I grabbed the blade instead..

Fortunately, I did not lose my fingers but they are glued together real good thanks to the emergency room doctor..

I had 13 cuts total with many of them being down to the bone.

All of the cuts are clean and doc feels like I will be good to go in about 7 to 10 days.

Other than the fact that I cannot type, play the piano, tie my shoes, etc, I am ok.

I would post pics but it looks kinda gross and might make some lose their appetite.

Would like to congratulate my daughter (12) who took it upon herself to find my thermometer and kept an eye on the smoker while I was being rushed to the hospital.. I was concerned about the food at one point and asked my wife to run home and check on it..

She thought I was delusional (I wasn't) and just gave me a defiant look that I knew better than to argue with

All in all...it was the best chicken and ribs I have ever cooked. I told my daughter it had to be her touch

Anyway.. as part of my ongoing therapy I am encouraged to talk about it so there you go

My poor baby!!!!!

Well, the blender has been officially trashed. Even if it wasn't machine error (I think it was), I certainly can't bear the thought of drinking any more

smoothies (ugh) from the same container that chewed up my husband's fingers!!!!!

Yes, my husband was SERIOUS when he asked me to LEAVE the ER and go home and check on his smoker!

NOT happening!

Our oldest daughter uses that smoothie maker quite often, and at the risk of sounding a little callous...I'm glad it was Jeff, and not her. His big old fingers could take some beating up (hehe, no pun intended), but her little hands would have been in trouble.

I did ask him yesterday, while in the emergency room, if he...might need an epidural.

????? cappuccino smoothie ????? OK, I can see the problem right now. If you had asked for a cold beer, this never would have happened.

If you like the treatment you are getting, I would find some rubber blades for that thing and keep it around. You may need it again one day.

Seriously, I am glad you are going to be OK. Could have been devestating. Even though you got hurt pretty bad, sounds like it could have been even worse. Are you going to be able to work during the recoup?

Jeeeeeez... Heal well and soon! There are a couple points here to glean from this experience:

1 Smoothies can be more hazardous than beer.
2 You, Sir ARE a smokaholic.
3 You should probably abstain from using any real type power tools
4 Quality Q cooking just might be hereditary
5 You wife and family love the heck outta you!

Wow Jeff, you are one lucky man, especially having an alternate pit master to step in when daddy tries to do silly things with kitchen appliances!

Lessee, cappuccino smoothie and BBQ... If I were you, I'd rethink the cappuccino smoothie next time... besides, it really doesn't "roll off the tongue" like Beer and BBQ does.
